Koumbie (she/they) is an award-winning actor, director, writer, and producer based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia. On screen, they’ve built a strong presence in Atlantic Canadian film and television, with recurring roles on series including Aquateam (YTV), Mr. D (CBC), Studio Black, Diggstown, Moonshine, and the final season of Sex & Violence(OUTtv).
Behind the camera, Koumbie directs bold, character-driven work across narrative and comedy. Their directing credits include the Short Film Face Off winner Hustle & Heart, the 1K Wave film Ariyah & Tristan’s Inevitable Break-Up, an episode of Studio Black Season 2, and work as a sketch director with CBC. As a writer, they have contributed to writers’ rooms on series including The Trades and Diggstown.
Koumbie was named a “One to Watch” by Sea in Be Scene (2016), selected for the WIFT-Atlantic Five in Focus program (2018), and awarded Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch that same year. In 2022, they received a Wave Award for their contributions to the industry and were named one of Atlantic Business Magazine’s Top 30 Under 30.
Their feature film Bystanders premiered at the Atlantic International Film Festival, where it won Best Atlantic Script, and went on to a cross-country theatrical release.
Off screen, Koumbie is a committed advocate for safer, more equitable sets. They serve as Vice President of ACTRA Maritimes, sit on the board of The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op, and are a driving force behind SPICE, a national initiative for intimacy professionals. They are also among the first Intimacy Coordinators working in Atlantic Canada.
